Galenika has Donated Funds to the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia

Belgrade, November 17, 2020 – Galenika has donated funds to the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia (IORS) in the amount of ten thousand euros. The goal of the donation is to support the work of this important, national institution and to further improve the conditions of treatment of patients coming from all over the country.

Galenika has organized a large humanitarian action “Pink October” regarding the Month of the Fight Against Breast Cancer this year, whitin which has donated 10% of the income from the overall sale of Pantenol cream over a period of one month, and the company doubled that amount from its own funds. The total amount of the donation is intended for procurement of surgical eqipment at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, an institution that has over 50,000 patients a year.

Our humanitarian action is aimed at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia (IORS) as an institution of national importance, and is accompanied by activities to raise awareness about the prevention of breast cancer. This year was marked by the Covid-19 pandemic. In parallel, there are a number of health and prevention topics that we believe are important and that we do not want to lose sight of. One of them is certainly the fight against breast cancer, respectively raising awareness about the importance of prevention and regular examinations. We are grateful to everyone who have supported the action because, together, we contributed to the improvement of the conditions of diagnosis and treatment of oncology patients. “, said Ricardo Vian Marques, General Manager of Galenika.

“On behalf of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, I would like to thank Galenika for the donation for the needs of our Clinic for Oncological Surgery within the Institute, which performs the most complicated procedures in the field of oncological surgery for patients from Serbia and the region and around 3,500 surgical procedures per year. Through socially responsible behavior, Galenika has enabled us to purchase the necessary equipment that will contribute to even better treatment of our patients. I want to emphasize the importance of such an example of a company that participates in the improvement of patients` treatments with its donation”- said the head of the Clinic for Oncological Surgery of IORS, doc. Dr. sci med Srđan Nikolić.

According to the data of the Institute of Public Health of Serbia “Dr Milan Jovanović Batut”, in Serbia every year about 4,600 women get breast cancer, while every eighth woman who faces this disease unfortunately loses the hardest battle. It is the most common form of tumor, but it is curable when detected in time. Therefore, breast cancer is a topic that needs to be discussed more often, and change the habits of women in the direction of more frequent examinations. The main goal is early detection of this disease, which gives greater chances for cure and preservation of quality of life.

Galenika had a special educational campaign within the company, and “Pink October” was supported by many celebrities through social networks – actors, singers, journalists, doctors who invited people to be part of this action and who showed by personal example how important information is and support.
